IGNITE
IGNITE is our professional development programme for dance artists.
We provide classes and space free of charge to dance artists based in the North East.
We also provide career pathways for emerging artists, including mentoring, creative skills development, networking, paid work, and use of the studio to develop creative practice. We currently provide different types of engagement:
Work experience for students - usually one week in the studio, working with us on a variety of tasks. If you’re interested, please ask your school to get in touch. Students from local colleges often join our productions as community cast members.
Placements for university students - we have a partnership with Northern School of Contemporary Dance and we welcome partnerships with all Higher Education institutions who have expertise in createch, performing arts, media, etc. Please contact info@southpaw.org.uk for a chat.
IGNITE Associates - emerging artists, usually from our placement schemes, who carry on with Southpaw at the end of their placement year.
IGNITE Fellows - paid internships to develop creative practice. This is particularly targeted at working class artists transitioning from elite hip hop competition to creative development.
