Thanks to the Garrick Charitable Trust we are able to offer a flexible career development track within Southpaw Company for an emerging dance professional.
To be eligible, applicants must come from a working-class background, be based in the North East, and have come through a non-traditional training route (e.g, not a conservatoire). Applicants must be over 18 and show some experience as a dance artist.
The career development track is anticipated to take place over a six month period and the time commitment will be agreed according to what the artist needs.
Support includes:
Mentoring from the Artistic Director of Southpaw Company.
Career development support from the Executive Director of Southpaw Company.
Participation in creation process for HOME, Southpaw's latest commission celebrating the opening of Culture House in Sunderland.
Participating in company activity.
Creation space – use of our studio for up to two weeks to create a showcase piece for sharing with an invited audience and filming to use as a “calling card”.
Networking opportunities with the dance sector.
The artist will be paid a fee of £2,500 over the development track: two weeks of developing their own work in our studio, two weeks of participating in the company's creation process, leading up to six company classes, and time to participate in the mentoring and networking.
