SHIFT: Letters to Our Past is a powerful, immersive dance-theatre production that tackles the most pressing issue of our time—the climate crisis—through the raw energy of performance, music, and digital art. This compelling piece, created in partnership with DU Dance (NI), Music Generation, and Queens University Belfast, unites 70 young dancers and musicians from across Ireland to vividly portray a climate protest that speaks to intergenerational responsibility, migration, and the resilience of human spirit.
Through its blend of contemporary dance, music, and projection mapping, SHIFT transports audiences into a visceral, emotional landscape where young people confront the dire realities of a world at risk. The voices of this generation are more urgent than ever, and SHIFT gives them a platform to address the global climate emergency with passion, creativity, and unflinching honesty. The story moves from idyllic memories of the past to the chaotic, burning world of the present, engaging audiences of all ages in a dialogue about the future.
SHIFT challenges the audience to reflect on climate change and social justice, raising awareness while instilling hope. It’s more than just a performance—it’s a call to action. Through captivating choreography and an innovative fusion of digital projections, the performance taps into the urgency felt by the younger generation. The show leaves a lasting emotional impact, making audiences question not only what is happening to our planet but what can be done to change it.
SHIFT embodies a fusion of live performance with cutting-edge digital technology, making it adaptable to both indoor and outdoor venues. The integration of augmented reality in future performances means that each city or venue has the opportunity to shape SHIFT into an experience deeply connected to its own community.
