Four diverse people standing side by side against a red background, with a white graphic and the text '3.1'.

3.1

A mixed-reality dance-theatre experience

It takes 3.1 seconds to form a judgement.

To scroll.

To decide who someone is.

What begins in bedrooms, buses and comment sections builds into something none of us can control.

Blending live performance with immersive digital environments, 3.1 transforms Southpaw Studio into
a shifting cityscape where physical movement and projection collide.

Four people.

One city.

Trying to live in the same space.

It takes seconds to divide. Years to rebuild.

Thank you to Sunderland’s community for opening up and collaborating with us. Special thanks to the CFO Hub, FODI, BME Network, Washington Men’s Group, AMPLIFY, Together for Children and Sunderland College.

Access, discretion & content:

3.1 explores events connected to tensions and unrest in Sunderland in 2024. The performance references social division, protest, conflict, racism, and misinformation. Some audience members may find these themes sensitive, and audience discretion is advised.

The work uses VR headsets and immersive environments, including moments of darkness, spatial sound, and shifting visuals. VR can occasionally cause motion sensitivity or mild discomfort; audience members are welcome to remove the headset or step out at any time.

The show is open to younger audiences, though children and young people are recommended to attend with a responsible adult or guardian. Please note the manufacturer of the VR headsets recommends age 10+ with parental supervision. Strong and/or offensive language, not suitable for ages under 12.

Southpaw Studio is located on the ground floor, with step free access and a fully accessible toilet/ambulant washroom. Entrance to Southpaw Studio is via Sheepfolds Stables; cobbled and uneven ground.
